I am so pleased to share with you the newest member of the Bean Squad, Vered Ronan! After participating in one of her music classes, I knew that Vered would be a fantastic addition to the team. Besides her clinical background, her teaching style is refreshing, and she is personable, down-to-earth and goal-oriented. Each class leaves us with something new to try and makes us examine the ways we approach the various stages of child development. Read more about her class here. I can’t wait for all of you to get to know her, ask her all of your pressing questions concerning your child’s development, and share what your most Challenging and Positive moment of the week was with your baby! We want to hear it all. Without further ado, meet Vered…

Hi! My name is Vered (pronounced like Jared with a /v/) and my goal is to help caregivers feel more confident and joyful in their parenting. I conduct groups around NYC with caregivers and babies that use tools from music therapy and are based in attachment theory. I also conduct private home visits when requested. I am a licensed music therapist and have a Masters in Clinical Psychology.

When I had my first baby I was in a PhD program for Clinical Psychology. Every day I would go home to my baby and sing with him. I found that the theory I was learning in school was put into practice when we sang together. We were attuned to each other, the music created consistency, and we were joyful, present and engaged. I experienced first hand how music is an intuitive language for our babies. It is a natural way for us to connect and bond with them. In addition music is a way to soothe ourselves and discover our own inner voice.

I decided to merge my experience and talents into one – the musician, the music therapist, the psychotherapist, and the mom- in order to create workshops for parents that give them the tools to connect with their babies through music. In our sessions we learn how to use music to soothe our babies, establish routine, develop language, communicate, play, and understand our babies at each developmental stage. A large component is finding your own voice and understanding your experience and emotions. We do this through discussion and song. Eventually we build a repertoire that is unique to you and your baby.

And now we bring Vered to YOU, our readers! We get that child-rearing can be a crazy ride. Sometimes you need someone there to help you navigate those stressful moments or just to remind you that what you’re going through is normal and that others are experiencing the same challenges! Check out her latest videos on our website.
