What is the DNR protocol, why is this important, and where can I obtain a DNR order?

The DNR protocol includes a list of specific actions of paramedics, ambulance, doctors and nurses who can participate in the treatment of patients who do not wish to be reanimated. The DNR protocol also lists actions that cannot be applied. The DNR protocol should be used for a patient to whom a physician, a certified nurse specialist or a physician assistant have issued a DNR order. This is important for patients who have expressed a desire for care when they can no longer speak for themselves. You can obtain a DNR order while consulting with your doctor, a certified nurse, nurse practitioner, or a physician’s assistant. It is important that every person have one.

What is sleep apnea, how does it affect infants and children, and what are some ways it is treated?

Sleep apnea refers to sleep disorders in which a person stops breathing periodically during sleep. At the moment of stopping of breathing, a person partially wakes up due to the fact that his brain comes out of a deep sleep phase. Breathing can stop from several times to hundreds of times during sleep. If it occurs in infancy, the number of times that the respiratory rate stops in sleeps increases during the fast sleep phase. An infant with apnea may not have enough oxygen in the blood, develop a slow heartbeat, and a loss of consciousness may occur. Undiagnosed sleep apnea in children can lead to fatigue and behavioral problems in the daytime. Children become hyperactive and do not focus well, which can be particularly detrimental to children attending school .

Treatment of sleep apnea include maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding taking sleeping pills, using nasal sprays with nasal congestion, and choosing the right posture for sleep.

What is SIDS and what age group does it usually affect?

The syndrome of sudden infant death is a diagnosis to which doctors cannot give an accurate answer. Infants up to 1 year old are susceptible to SIDS. Most often, SIDS happens during sleep between 10 in the evening and 10 o’clock in the morning.
