In a city currently digitally overloaded, there is a special feeling when you touch a physical book. I love the crisp sound of binding crackling from being opened for the first time and the library-like quiet that fills most bookshops. Books Of Wonder, however, is a different kind of bookshop. Visiting their Upper West Side location on 84th street between Broadway and Amsterdam, the silence was broken with little children giggling in the back corner of the shop, a kind staff member that checked to see if I needed assistance then left me to wander in peace, and an older woman who was reading to herself down one of the aisles. It is a very welcoming space and a great way to escape a gloomy day.
Specializing in old, rare, and out-of-print children’s books and many titles that have been signed by the author, Books of Wonder is a truly special shop. If you’re looking for a book that reminds of your your childhood, or something completely new and unique, this is the bookshop for you!
