With each change of the season it’s nice to switch up our decor to give us new perspectives, and to help reimagine spaces that feel a bit uninspiring at the moment. Autumnal weather usually brings on all the cozy feels with sherpas, suedes, throws, rich colors, and candles. Most of us are trying to stick to a tight budget while elevating our spaces. If you’re working from home making your home comfortable, but also functional for work is necessary. Here are a few things that helped give my home a lil’ lift for the new season.
NEW PILLOW COVERS
The simplest way to spruce up what you already have is to change the exterior and pillow covers are perfect for that. Here are a few that I’m loving right now…
PERIGOLD | Madura Montana – 15.7″ Throw Pillow Cover
WEST ELM | Embroidered Lines – 24″ Square Pillow Cover
WALMART | Miulee – 18″ Square Pillow Cover; Pack of 2
COTERIE | Naima, Faux Leather – Sizes vary
WOVEN NOOK – Marra – 22″ Hand Loomed Pillow Cover Made In Morocco
PAINT
If you really want to make a big impact on a small space, but you have a limited budget, a coat of paint might be the perfect project for you! What kind of feel are you going for? Do you like rich hues, or a light and airy feeling? From grays to blues, here are some trending neutral color samples that I found on Pinterest that may inspire you…

BEDDING
There are two things that can make a bedroom look really sad… an unmade bed and old, raggedy sheets. Simply changing out your bedding for a fresh set of linens can make a huge difference and make that bed of yours much more welcoming! Depending on the size of your bed, however, it can be a challenge to find a reasonably priced set of sheets. I found these sheets on Amazon, and they are super soft and have deep pockets for thicker mattresses (covered my 18in mattress perfectly). Note, they are a bit see-through if you get the white ones, but I found that if you have a white mattress cover underneath it resolves this issue. You get four pillow cases, a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, and the king size is just under $38!
CURTAINS / SHADES
A beautiful set of drapes can really transform a space. Hang your curtains high and close to the top of your ceiling to create the illusion of higher ceilings in your house. However, if you’re on a budget, custom drapes may seem a bit far-fetched. Here’s a hack that I love. I find my favorite discontinued fabric prints from shops I love like Marimekko on Ebay or I go to smaller fabric shops in the garment district and find a sturdy material in linen or a fun print and get a few yards. You can then either stitch it yourself and add grommets with this handy tool, or ask your dry cleaners if they’ll stitch it for you and wahlah! You’ve got yourself some custom drapes!
Depending on your style, though, you may want to go the complete opposite route and avoid curtains altogether. If you love that crisp airy feel, show off those window frames and opt for blinds or shades! Shops like Ikea, Select Blinds, and Home Depot, among other places, carry them with a wide variety of price points.
GET ORGANIZED
Sometimes, the best solutions for revamping your home are free ones! Work with what you’ve got by pairing down unnecessary items you may have, organizing all of your things so that everything has a place in your home, and making sure your things are neat and tidy. A clean, organized home, is an inviting and less stressful space! I recently watched Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and Get Organized with The Home Edit on Netflix and they were a good reminder that we can be grateful for the spaces that we do have, and use those spaces efficiently to maximize our usage and spark joy. Make use of old boxes like Marie to organize your drawers and cupboards, and use labels or color coding like The Home Edit to create a system that works for you!
