The year 2020 has been a challenging one to say the least. We are still in the midst of dealing with a global pandemic and the economic fallout as a result of it. And now, the media is covering the explosion of anger and frustration felt by many in the past week. It is an especially hard time for parents as they juggle working, at home schooling and lately having conversations about race with their children.

Parents, know you are not alone. While these are hard conversations to have with your children, they must be topics of discussion. No matter the age of your child, they will have some sense of what is going on. The youngest ones may feel the anger and tension carried by the adults around them this past week. And the teenagers, no doubt are being exposed to the stories on social media.

As with everything else, parents should openly discuss these topics with their children. And since reading with your child should be a daily activity, combining the two seems only natural. There are many children books/literature available to begin the discussion. So, this week I am sharing some books that are educators approved and loved by parents and children alike. I hope you enjoy reading these books with your little ones and that they are a great starting point for discussions about diversity, race and humanity.
