Hey guys! It goes without saying that reading is fundamental to children’s development. Each week I’ll be posting some of my favorite children’s books or resources that can help encourage reading/speech development in your children.

Pete The Cat by Eric Litwin, James Dean Photo via Barnes and Noble
I love this book because it can be read as a song. I recently went to check out a music class in the Boerum Hill area of Brooklyn and loved the way the way the instructor used this book as part of her class to teach the kids about their colors as well as being positive even when the unexpected strikes! The kids who’s ages ranged from 6-months to 2-years loved it, so never feel limited to buying books only geared to a specific age. And feel free to cater books that don’t seem as age appropriate to suit your child. For a younger audience focus on pictures with contrast, point out specific animals and teach them the corresponding sounds, pick out fun colors and create fun rhythms with potions of the book that catch their attention.
I can’t tell you how much I love these cards! The high contrast art pieces are a hit with little ones and are excellent tools for teaching animals, alphabet, shapes and more!

Max the Brave, by Ed Vere Photo via Barnes and Noble
Looking for a silly read? You’ll have lots of fun reading this book with your little one as you follow Max the cat on his journey to find a mouse (which he has never seen before). The wording is simple so it’s a great option for beginning readers as well!
